Falls colors in SoCal

Mon Oct 26, 2009, 8:38 PM

There is not a great deal of fall color to be found in southern California (palm trees are always green.... or dead), but up in the San Bernardino Mountains there is a small Aspen grove that is very beautiful and I was unable to resist shooting. It was really nice because I was able to go slow and really figure out what I wanted for my exposure; I used my light meter so much I killed the battery. I played a lot with getting glowing leaves with deeper areas of shadows. Oddly enough, on of my favorite shots is of two white tree trunks that had the sun shining on just a small portion of them that I knew I wanted in black and white even as I was shooting. Though the only real color to be found was yellow/gold (no reds or oranges), it was a beautiful day and well worth the trip.

I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy their fall.

I'm still trying not to use it too much, and I'm saving every penny I can get my hands on. I'm thinking I will wait for Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) to buy my new camera. I'm hoping I can get a killer deal on it, and maybe a new lens or CF cards, or something.

Dude, you probably can get a killer deal then. Especially if you're crazy enough to be up wicked early and get there in the morning rush. LOL And it's not like it's that far off, either. Just over a month, really. Which is terrifying, because it means the year has basically just disappeared. D:

Yeah, I'm crazy enough.... though chances are I will just stay up from the night before instead of sleeping. But if I will save me a great deal of money, I'm willing to do it.

And I know what you mean about the year. Sheesh, Christmas is almost here, I need to start thinking about what I'm going to do for cards.... and gift. I think I've really pushed giving photo's as far as I can.
